The Lee Valley manor home is welcoming, historic and architecturally unique. It has been lovingly and beautifully restored, with the owners taking great care to retain the original details and period charm. Set on twelve lush acres only 10-12 minutes from Cork, it is an Irish gem full of spacious rooms, comfortable, plush and inviting furnishings and landscape portrait-worthy grounds and gardens.
Full of playful and studious details throughout, the house boasts four large primary ensuite bedrooms, sleeping up to 10 guests, with an additional 3 bedrooms in the ground floor apartments able to be booked for up to an additional 8 guests (see below for details).
This home is gorgeous, gracious and terrifically comfortable. It books up quickly, especially for the high season, with families, groups of friends or relatives, and sportsmen looking for the perfect golf retreat. It is a treat and a joy in a great location for touring the many sites and beauties of County Cork and County Kerry.
Entry & Layout
Enter the home through large, ornate double wooden doors into a wide hall lined with antique furniture and a beautiful oriental rug atop shining hardwood floors. The main sitting room is situated to the right of the entry hall, and the billiards room to the left.
Straight ahead down the long hallway is a large staircase, original to this 18th Century home, crowned by two lovely stained glass windows. To the right of the staircase is a shorter hallway leading to the eat-in kitchen and large formal dining room.
Living Area - Drawing and Billiard Rooms
Rooms in this unique manor house are large and lovely. Tall ceilings, huge windows and tons of light frame each generous space, highlighting the plush, comfortable and unassuming furniture, artwork and thoughtful details that fill every room.
The double sitting room features two sofas, matching easy chair, two wingback armchairs and several occasional chairs, as well as a grand piano, gorgeous antique writing desk and large marble fireplace. There is lovely artwork and an antique tapestry adorning the walls.
Across the hall, the Billiards Room is lined with windows on two sides and offers a full sized Billiards table along with other games and activities. There is plenty of comfortable seating. Art and safari-themed items decorate the walls. This large and inviting space tends to be a place where travelers gather together after a day out on the course or off touring the countryside, to play friendly games of pool and chat about the adventures of the day over a glass of Port.
Dining Room & Kitchen
The large formal dining room sits at the back of the house on the right. A long mahogany table seats 12 comfortably. A sideboard is a perfect buffet or serving table for self-catered or chef-prepared meals. The room showcases a beautiful fireplace, large windows and lots of light, just as in the rest of the house. The owners’ awe-inspiring photographs and lovely painting adorn the walls. Double french doors lead out to the stone patio and gardens.
The informal eat-in country kitchen sits between the main hallway and the dining room, to the right of the large staircase. With plenty of counter space and a small dining table seating 4 – 6, this is a perfect breakfast spot for the early riser, or gathering place for group meal prep or wine and cheese after a day at the course. The facilities are well-equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and various labor-saving devices. A door leads to a utility patio with full sized American-style washer and large tumble dryer.
Bedrooms/Bathrooms
Four bedrooms, each of them with enormous ensuite bathrooms, are located upstairs. They are all gorgeous: large, comfortable, light-filled, terrific.
The bathrooms, once former bedrooms, are all ludicrously large and generously appointed.
Bedroom 1: Large King bedroom with sleigh bed, couch, armchair, fireplace, armoire and large wall of windows. Ensuite bathroom – bigger than our first apartment, by the way – has a large claw-foot tub in the center of the room and a separate shower stall.
Bedroom 2: King size double bed with an additional single trundle (so the room can accommodate up to 4 if needed – perfect for a small family unit with children or within a larger group). The room has a decorative fireplace, two easychairs and a lovely vanity table with mirror. The oversized ensuite bathroom offers a tub and separate shower stall.
Bedroom 3: King size double bed and single bed in this spacious room, with dressing table, armoire, easychair and interesting older paintings and photos. The ensuite bathroom has a tub with a separate shower stall.
Bedroom 4: King size antique four-poster bed with vanity table & mirror, easychair, armoire and the same incredible light-bringing windows as enjoyed by all the bedrooms. The very large ensuite bathroom has a tub with shower-over-tub.
Additional Bedrooms 5, 6 & 7: Available for rent in the attached Garden Apartment, accessible via separate entrance at the ground floor level. Includes 2 more bathrooms and a kitchenette. Inquire for details.
Grounds
This luxury holiday home sits on 12 acres, surrounded by lawns, rhododendron gardens and woodlands. It is very private, lacking close neighbors, and featuring park-like trails to explore. The manor grounds are beautifully kept and inviting for walks, for relaxation, for playing in the grass, or simply wandering the woods. The ever-thoughtful owners (who live in a separate area on site, and will be glad to be as available or invisible as you require) have stocked the place with outdoor games, including croquet, badminton and boules.
Garden Apartment Rooms (Additional Rental)
A recent addition to the house, the ground floor garden apartments offer a two-bedroom, 1 bathroom suite with kitchenette and a large 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom suite with an additional fold-out couch and television set. All together the house accommodates up to 18 people and rents for €3900 weekly in the high season. PLEASE ENQUIRE ABOUT RATES AND FULL DETAILS FOR THE ADDITIONAL GARDEN APARTMENT ROOMS.
