A single level modern home built into the hillside on a small plateau overlooking grassy pastures and shifting seas of the Dingle peninsula. The 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom Irish holiday home features exceptional views of the surrounding water and an historic celtic standing stone framed through several of the house’s many windows. Situated  high above the surrounding plains that roll out to the ocean, the house feels very private – just you, your fellow travelers and the many sheep that dot the landscape. Completely clean, modern, fresh, comfortable and with a welcoming kindness. The lighting is lovely, the furniture deluxe and comfortable, linens and blankets luxurious.

The only thing this house needs, in fact, is a little more Joan – she’s the owner of the house and an accomplished artist. Some of her prints hang on the walls, but many rooms have yet to fully decorated. There is a completely charming painting of a sheep in the sitting room that we found delightful. The sensibility that shines in this piece is the same light, ecclectic, tasteful perspective that she is using to slowly decorate the creamy walls and uncluttered surfaces of this luxury vacation rental – the house is her blank canvas, an artful work-in-progress and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

ENTRY & LAYOUT
From the extra wide entry hall, one of four bedrooms, the twin room, is straight ahead. The other three bedrooms- all with Queen size double beds – is located off to the left side of the house.

Of the two extra large family bathrooms, one is accessed from the main hallway, as well as the twin bedroom. The other is a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with doors on either side connecting the two larger double bedrooms on the very far left of the house. There is a small guest loo behind the utility room off the kitchen, by the back door to the paved & furnished patio.

To the right of the entry, double glass doors peak into the sitting room, which is accessed via the kitchen through a door on the right at the end of the hallway. Off the modern gourmet kitchen is a spacious conservatory dining room with three walls of windows.

SITTING ROOM
Two comfortable stuffed couches frame the windows in the sitting room, facing lovely views and the warm fireplace, respectively. A leather recliner sits under a tall ceramic lamp in one corner. Two occasional chairs are placed around the room, as well.

There is a large flat screen television, fireplace, built-in bookshelves, large coffee table, and of course the two walls of windows out to the water in the distance. The floors are ceramic tile with a nice Persian area rug. This room is partially open to the extra large kitchen.

KITCHEN
The large kitchen is a modern classic with lots of granite counter space and nice English cabinetry. A tall granite topped table serves as either an island or a casual breakfast table in the middle of the spacious room. Smart cabinets and glass front cupboards line the room. The floors are a terracotta ceramic tile.

All modern conveniences are present: dishwasher, microwave, large fridge/freezer, 6-burner gas cooktop and large oven. With gourmet cookware, excellent fixtures and nice service items, it is a great place for groups to cook and dine together, and certainly serves as an informal gathering space on group holidays.

The washer and dryer plus an extra sink, guest toilet and door to the back patio are all accessed in the utility room off just off the kitchen.

DINING ROOM
The dining room is designed in the style of a traditional conservatory, with low ceilings and windows on three sides. Views feature the ancient celtic standing stone that mark an area of important spiritual ground on the Dingle peninsula, and of course the beautiful vistas and bay waters in the very near distance.

A pine wood table and chairs seat 8 comfortably. A wooden sideboard is nice for buffet or drinks service. This is a relaxing and thoughtful space from which to sit alone and stare out the window, or a fine spot to gather everyone together, to eat drink and be merry in great holiday spirits.

BEDROOMS/BATHROOMS

Bedroom 1: Twin bedroom, with adjacent family bathroom accessed from within the room.

The Twin bedroom is situated next to the kitchen and accessed from the wide entry hall. It has two plush twin beds with soft faux fur blankets, a large wood armoire and two dressers. A sliding door opens to the enclosed patio off a cemented outdoor space with Barbeque. Views look up the side of the sheltering hill outside, grassy and dotted with happy sheep.

A door at the left of the room leads in to the large yellow family bathroom with bathtub, hand-held-shower & separate shower stall. A second door from this bathroom leads into the main hallway.

Bedroom 2: Queen double bedroom, sharing the family bathroom just across the hall with the Twin room (above).

A medium sized room with 5′ Queen double bed, silver satin bedspread, soft light beige carpets, bedside tables, white wardrobe and a wood sideboard, as well as a window with pretty views out to the sloping landscape with the sea in the immediate distance.

Directly across the hall is the door to the yellow family bathroom (tub, hand-held shower and separate shower stall) that has its second door directly into the Twin bedroom (described above).

Bedroom 3: Queen double Master bedroom, with great views, and sharing the Jack-n-Jill family bathroom.

Extra large Master bedroom with Queen double bed, ecru colored couch, soft beige carpets, lots of built-in closet space and several windows bringing lots of light and the lovely sea views.

A door next to the sofa leads into the shared green family bathroom, with deep soaking tub, hand-held shower and separate shower stall. A second door from this bathroom leads into the fourth bedroom.

Bedroom 4: Queen double bedroom, sharing the Jack-n-Jill family bathroom.

Queen size double bed, comfortable leather armchair and footstool, beautiful antique inlaid armoire and built-in closet units. Light, bright and spacious. The adjoining bathroom, with tub, hand-held shower and separate shower stall, has two doors, one opening into this room, the other leading directly into the Master bedroom next door.

A door leads out to the gravel and pavement patio next to the steep hillside. In the garage just off the patio there is a games room.

Guest Powder Room: There is an additional toilet and sink in the powder room off the utility room adjacent to the kitchen, on the far side of the house from the bedrooms.

Location

The property sits about 4 miles outside of Dingle, less than a five or six minute drive after the first time you drive it and inevitably miss the turn-off!

The countryside surrounding the house is lush and gorgeous, even in winter as when we visited and took these photos. The sea surrounds the peninsula, and the seaside roads in the area are breathtaking (literally, you’ll gasp turning around many a bend in the roads here).

The Dingle Celtic Water View house sits on a small bluff on a hillside, just a few houses (or a 1/4 mile) in from the R559 road to Dingle. There is a famous pottery school nearby, and several minuscule blink-and-you’ll-miss-’em villages.

Dingle town: 4 miles, about 5 minutes
Killarney: 45 miles, about an hour and 10 minutes
Shannon Airport: 112 miles, approximately 2.5 hours
Cork: 97 miles, at least 2 – 2.5 hours
Dublin:212-240 miles depending on the route, 4 – 4.5 hours (Note: we don’t recommend trying to drive this in one day whether you’ve just landed in Dublin from an overnight flight or not).
