The original building was a "short castle", only two stories high, built by Captain O'Sullivan in 1641. In 1654, Cromwell's forces demolished the entire west wall. It stayed that way until 1760 when the house was rebuilt using those long-neglected walls to form the large center hallway. Totally refurbished in recent years by the current owners, it is a superb house.
One enters a wide front hall that has yellow walls and white woodwork, a fireplace, a fine antique grandfather clock and an English glass-fronted cupboard. At the far end of the hall, there the beautifully-carved stairway goes to the top floor.
The library is to the left of the hallway. It's a wonderful room. It has deep green walls lined with shelves holding many books. The furniture is generous and comfortable. Antiques include a writing desk, paintings and other art. Green and beige curtains with a laurel wreath design grace tall windows. The fireplace is Carrara marble.
The drawing room is also on the left of the hallway. It has deep yellow walls, ornate cases holding antique china, paintings, another grandfather clock, antiques, elegant, comfortable furniture. A gilt-framed mirror hangs between tall windows that are covered with blue and beige curtains. A low bench is placed in front of the fireplace.
Across the hall, the red dining room has an antique table that seats 10 easily. There is an antique mahogany sideboard, a fireplace, ancestors’ portraits on the walls, wood floors.
A guest loo is off the stone-floored hallway that’s between the dining room and the kitchen. The loo's grey-green walls are covered with photos, etchings and other art that depict the history of the house and the community.
The modern kitchen is large enough for everyone to join in the cooking. It has modern appliances, but a traditional style. Walls are coral. A pine table seats 8 comfortably. Sun streams in through three large windows that look out to the courtyard. A guest who had checked out that morning left a parting message on the chalk board: “Gone to America to seek a better life”. We doubt he'll find it.
On the upstairs landing, there is a beautiful, massive 17th century Irish oak linen cupboard. The four bedrooms are further upstairs. Each of the bedrooms is large, luxurious and comfortable. The colors are lovely, very Irish. The beds all have Battenburg lace bedcovers.
A yellow bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds. There is an antique armoire, a dressing table, blue carpeting. This bedroom overlooks the cottage courtyard. The large, white-tiled en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and a separate shower cubicle.
A red bedroom, the largest bedroom, has a king bed that can convert to twin beds. There are two green upholstered chairs, a decorative fireplace, a tall free-standing mirror, an oak dressing table, a beautiful antique wardrobe. Two tall windows look east toward the river. The en suite white-tiled bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower.
A deep yellow bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds. There is a window seat, a green-painted dressing table, an antique armoire. Rich flowered fabric cover large windows that overlook the river and the side garden. The large en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower.
The green bedroom bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds. There is a large antique cupboard, a dressing table, an easy chair and a rocking chair. Windows look onto the side garden. The bathroom, off a private hallway, has a deep tub with hand-held shower and a separate shower cubicle, blue walls and shiny white tile wainscoting.

These four cottages share an 18th century stone building that was once the stables. There is privacy for each cottage as the walls between the cottages are made of the original stone and the patios have screening between them. You can hear the River Laune splash through the woods.
Named after Killarney's rivers, the cottages are Laune, Flesk, Torc and Keal. Laune has four bedrooms, Flesk has three bedrooms and Torc and Keal each have two bedrooms.
The cottages have been renovated and furnished with the same attention to quality, comfort and style as the manor house. The decor is more casual, as befits a cottage, but the level of care is the same. The comfortable sitting rooms each has a working fireplace, flat-screen satellite televisions, DVD and CD players. The two larger cottages have especially spacious dining areas and sitting rooms, ideal for entertaining. The living areas are equipped with and an open fire. Each cottage has a patio with teak garden furniture and barbecue. All the cottages have wireless internet access.
All the bedrooms have Egyptian Cotton bed linens, en suite bathrooms, and all of the beds can be made up either as one King bed or two Single beds. The beds have luxurious blue and cream Irish wool blankets in a windowpane design. They were designed by the property owner and they were all made by local weavers from wool of local sheep. It’s all so nice, so welcoming. All the cottages have fully equipped kitchens with double ovens, microwaves and dishwashers and utility rooms with washing machines. A gas clothes drier is shared by the cottages.
The kitchen/dining rooms open to south-facing or west-facing terraces with views of the mountains. The kitchens are equipped with a gas hob, double oven, a microwave and dishwasher. The cottages share a communal laundry room in the stables.
